Solidarity of Cavite Workers (SCW) paid its highest respects to Rev. Fr. Jose P. Dizon on the night of November 7, 2013 at the office of the Workers Assistance Center (WAC) in Rosario, Cavite which Fr. Dizon served as Executive Director since its inception in 1995.

Current SCW Chairman Jojit De Guzman stood as emcee of the tribute as leaders and workers took turns to pay their tribute to Fr. Joe.

WAC Paralegal officer Salve Valenciano, meanwhile, narrated how Fr. Joe established WAC from being a socio-pastoral program of the Most Holy Rosary Parish when he was still parish priest. Thus, SCW was conceived two years after the establishment of WAC as a result of its organizing work among the workers in the economic zone.

De Guzman also shared some anecdotes on Fr. Joe. ‘There were times that Fr. Joe lent me some money so that I can go to work when my co-unionists and I got fired and had to work outside Cavite.’

‘There’s also a time that Fr. Joe got bitten by his dog instead of me as I retreat to the doorsteps of Fr. Joe’s home.’

Fr. Oliver Castor of the Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI) also gave his tribute as Fr. Joe became as one of his teachers when he was still a seminarian.

Emmanuel Asuncion of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) in Cavite and also a former SCW chairperson gave also his highest respects to Fr. Joe. He recounted his experiences when he was still with SCW and the Manila Hotel picketline dispersal where Fr. Joe was collared by policemen and detained.

Fr. Dizon or Fr. Joe as he was commonly addressed, succumbed to complications from diabetes at the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI), Quezon City on November 4, 2013.

Fr. Joe’s wake was first placed at San Roque Cathedral in Caloocan City, his hometown and was later brought to WAC in Rosario, Cavite. Bp. Rey Evangelista along with the Imus Diocese Clergy and Religious welcome his body on the morning of November 9 until the interment within the compound of the Imus Diocese in Imus on November 11.
